Anatta’s Authentic Thai to go

Don’t let the absence of brick-n-mortar fool you, Anatta’s is the real deal when it comes to authentic Thai food. Food trucks are popping up all over the United States and Kauai is no exception. Many of the food trucks are Kauai use fresh, organic and local ingredients.

Anatta’s Authentic Thai Food is located in Lihue on Rice Street in the Ace Hardware parking lot. Random, yes I agree. After passing the food truck daily and smelling the aromas, which are intense, I knew I had to stop by sometime. It wasn’t until we had friends come to visit Kauai and they were adamant that we try Anatta’s. After hearing raving reviews in the community and constant commercials on the radio, we had to try for ourselves.

Love, love, love the basic menu. Forget the tough decisions, just pick one of the 1o menu items or 4 combo plates and go for it! The menu offers the traditional Thai selections such as ~ Pad Thai, Summer Roll, Vegetable Spring Roll, Green/Red/Yellow Curry, and Papaya Salad. We ordered the Pad Thai & Pad See-Ew along with Thai iced teas. The Pad See-Ew noodles were made to perfection, not too sticky or pasty. Bliss. For dessert, try the tapioca pudding with coconut.

They have one simple table with an umbrella to sit at or take your Thai to go.

You know it’s a great place when a ton of people are standing around in a parking lot at lunch time. Anatta’s makes everything fresh, so expect to wait about 7-12 minutes for delicious, hot (temperature) Thai! Most of the dishes run from $7.00-11.00 depending on if you order shrimp, chicken, or tofu.

Anatta’s is the perfect place to meet someone for lunch. Even on a hot day, there were tropical breezes felt under the shady umbrella. It is noisy, since it sits on Rice Street (Lihue’s main drag), but the food is so great that you won’t notice. If you like Thai iced tea, you must order one with your entrée. They are really sweet and strong, but perfect on a hot day.

Next time you are visiting Kauai or cruising down Rice, stop off and grab some Thai food at Anatta’s!! Don’t let the food truck appearance fool you. The food is fresh, light and full of flavor.

I can’t wait to check out this place when I head back to the islands. No way to get decent thai food here unless you cook it yourself or shell out the money.
